IT Network Engineer

We’re looking for a qualified person to join Netgate’s IT team as a Network Engineer.  This position will be responsible for managing the administration of the Enterprise and Data Center networks for Netgate and activities related to administration, design, installation, configuration, maintenance, and utilization of the LAN, WAN, and wireless networks.

 

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs, installs, configures, maintains, supports, and administers the companywide network infrastructure; this includes office and data center network environments, firewalls, load balancers, and controller-based WLANs.
  • Analyzes network health and activity to proactively identify deficiencies and recommends solutions to enhance the performance of the network.
  • Performs troubleshooting support to diagnose complex network problems; captures and analyzes network traffic; identifies, locates, resolves, and repairs problems within scope of authority.
  • Plans, develops, and designs network management and maintenance projects; works with management and other departments to develop enterprise level solutions.
  • Analyzes problems and implements solutions according to department guidelines and procedures.
  • Tests new software code releases, evaluates new technology, and assesses compatibility and integration options with existing equipment and operating systems.
  • Reports technical problems which need to be addressed by improved policies and procedures.
  • Provides technical support, training, and assistance to technical staff and end users.
  • Collects technical and administrative information and compiles data for reports.

 

Knowledge

  • Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
  • Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 network protocols; including BGP, EVPN, VxLAN, and OSPF routing protocols.
  • Experience designing and supporting remote access and site-to-site VPNs; knowledge of various encryption protocols.
  • Network orchestration and automation including REST API and Ansible.
  • Knowledge of ITIL standards; including change management, incident management, and SLA management.
  • Current trends and information sources for managing network systems.
  • Project planning and project management principles.
  • CCNP Enterprise or CCNP Data Center certification preferred.

Additional Skills and Experience

  • Automation using Ansible, Salt, or Terraform
  • Python or shell scripting
  • Linux System Administration
  • AWS, Azure, or cloud networking

Other Requirements

  • Any of: Bachelor’s degree, related Military MOS, CCNP or similar certification.
  • Three years related work experience.
  • Reliable transportation for local Austin or Denver area - travel required.
  • Work is performed in a standard office, data center, or similar environment.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds (racking routers, switches, servers, etc.).
  • Work safely and follow safety rules.

Compensation

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $76,000-$110,000 + bonus + benefits.  When available, the salary range posted for this position reflects the projected minimum hiring range for new hires in U.S locations. Compensation details reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonuses or benefits. Individual pay is determined by the work location and additional factors, including but not limited to skill set, experience, and relevant education, certifications or training. Applicants may not be eligible for the full salary range based on their U.S hiring location.
